Homemade taco seasoning is easy to make and so much
better than packaged seasonings that contain chemicals.
|
2 teaspoons instant minced onion
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon crushed dried red pepper
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon crushed dried red pepper
1/2 teaspoon sea salt (optional)
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
½ teaspoon instant minced garlic (or garlic powder)
Method:
Combine all ingredients and use immediately or store for later use. (Mixture can be stored in a small container or a 6 inch square of aluminum foil, folded and sealed, to make airtight.) Label container or foil pouch: “Taco Seasoning”. Makes one portion.
To make taco meat:
1 pound cooked ground beef, chicken, turkey, or pork, or 1 pound cooked shredded chicken.
1 portion of taco seasoning
Place meat in a skillet. Add a 1/2 cup of water and taco seasoning mix. Cook over medium-low heat, simmering about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Notes: A chemical free seasoning is part of Keto "clean eating". Make several packets, or containers ahead of time, to have on hand as needed.
Nutritional info for one portion of seasoning: 28.6 calories ~ .6 grams fat ~
4.2 grams net carbs ~ 1.3 grams protein (When mixed with a pound of meat, the net carbs for individual portions is a fraction of the total.)
3 cups of water? That seems like too much. Normally it's 3/4 cup water.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment! That was a huge type...should have been a 1/2 cup. I corrected my mistake, :D
DeleteI've been making my own spices for years. I purchase my individual spices without any anti-caking agents so there will be none in the spice mixes I create... WHAT IS "INSTANT MINCED ONION" or "INSTANT MINCED GARLIC"?
ReplyDeleteIt is dried minced onion and garlic, instead of powdered.
